Pride Day Events at Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church Our annual Pride Day Breakfast, Service, and March festivities will take place on Sunday June 14. After a light pre-service breakfast at 8:30 am we'll host a regular worship service at a special time of 9:30 am, with Rev. David McFarland speaking on the topic "Liberty for All: Stonewall at 40 - Join our celebration of the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion, credited with igniting the modern BGLT Liberation Movement.". Rev. McFarland is the first openly gay ordained minister called to a Pittsburgh pulpit. Immediately following the worship service we'll provide bus transportation from the Northside church to the downtown march. Pittsburgh area Unitarian Universalists (UU's) from several congregations will be marching together in blue "Pittsburgh Area Unitarian Universalist" t-shirts in support of the local BGLT community. The bus will make two return trips to the church after the march.
Since 1906 Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church has stood for liberal religion, social advocacy, and spiritual growth on Pittsburgh's Northside, and for its inclusivity towards bisexual, gay, lesbian, and transgender people has been recognized as a Welcoming Congregation by the Unitarian Universalist Association. Unitarian Universalism (UU) is a caring, open-minded religion that encourages seeking your own spiritual path and draws on many religious traditions, welcoming people with different beliefs. Unitarian Universalists are united by shared values, not by creed or dogma, and UU congregations are places where people gather to nurture their spirits and put their faith into action by helping to make our communities — and the world — a better place. One of the seven Unitarian Universalist principles affirms the inherent worth and dignity of every person, and the religion has a proud record of affirmation and advocacy in support of GLBT people.
