Introduction
Since 1906, Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church has been a beacon of inclusive community, unfettered discovery of truth, spiritual growth, and social advocacy and action. So what do we do at Allegheny that's so special? We provide a welcoming home for people from many religious backgrounds and perspectives. We provide a non-judgmental reception to people of diverse sexual orientations. As an urban church, we work with the North Side community of which we are a part and with those whose circumstances require a helping hand. We don't "go to" people in distressed circumstance. We walk out the door. And people in need walk into that same door. We are connected to the people with whom we serve.
As a congregation and as individuals, we involve ourselves in issues of the times. As times change, so do the issues. The congregation has been involved in women's suffrage, civil rights, urban renewal, anti-war protests, and nuclear disarmament. Today we're working on a broad range of social issues including economic equity, racial justice, civil rights for sexual minorities, community revitalization, homelessness and hunger, and being better stewards of the environmental.
Rev. David McFarland has served as our called minister since September of 2004. You can read more about Rev. McFarland and his vision for Allegheny UU.
As the 2nd oldest Unitarian Church in Pittsburgh, we've been around awhile. But you won't find us stuck in the past. We are committed to putting our faith into action by celebrating life, nourishing the spirit, and inspiring a commitment to justice. We invite you to come and experience this extraordinary community.Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church's mission is to be a welcoming
urban congregation that puts Unitarian Universalism into action by
celebrating life, nourishing the spirit, and inspiring a commitment to
justice. We are building a community of justice,
equity, and compassionate service to others, the neighborhood, and the planet.
