Pittsburgh, PA 15212The DownUnder Coffeehouse is open monthly on the third Saturday of the month (more or less), Sept through May. We are located in the newly renovated basement of the Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church on the corner of North Ave and Resaca Place, in Pittsburgh's historic North Side in the Mexican War Street neighborhood, near the National Aviary. Born to Cook. This month we team with the new traveling series, Born to Cook, which presents singer-songwriters in the round. The evening will feature the return of Joey Murphy and her rosy blues, along with AUUC friend Frank Bienkowski. Who knows who else might show up! Heather Kropf and Keith Hershberger. Heather Kropf on piano brings bittersweet jazz-folk stylings to her songwriting, weaving deceptively complex melodies around the universal subjects of love, life, and loss. She will make you feel comfortable with her voice, while making you ponder with her words. Come hear a true Pittsburgh treasure!
Oct 15, 2005 7:30-9:30pm Jack Erdie and Robert Wagner. Two of Pittsburgh's most prolific and engaging songwriters will share the stage for an evening of original music. This will be a good chance to hear songs from Jack's new CD, Pumpkin, and Robert's recent CD, Unimarts, Pit Bulls + Karaoke Machines. This will be a "living room" concert at 1110 Resaca Place, behind the church.
Sept 24, 2005 7:30-9:30pm Nine Mile Run and South Wind. We open the season with the return to the coffeehouse of one of Pittsburgh's premier bluegrass bands, Nine Mile Run. We are also delighted to feature the wonderful harmonies of traditional folk duo, South Wind, who will playing at the coffeehouse for the first time. This will be a "living room" concert at 1110 Resaca Place, behind the church.

Feb 26, 2005 7:30-9:30pm Monongahela Sheiks. Pittsburgh's premier jug band returns to the coffeehouse. Come and listen to the acoustic blues, ragtime, and popular American music from the Early 1920s, '30s and '40s. Larry Berger of Saturday Light Brigade will be this week's special guest host. Brad Yoder (www.bradyoder.com) returns for an evening of original songs. Voted top local acoustic act of 2003 and 2004 by the City Paper, Brad will be joined by another amazing and local singer-songwriter, Heather Kropf, (www.heatherkropf.com) on piano. There should be some parking during the game around the church and lots of parking when the game ends. Come celebrate the victory at the DownUnder!
Dec 18, 2004 7:30-9:30pm Winter Ceilidh. This month we will feature a winter ceilidh, (a gathering for music), with a variety of performers taking the stage. Rick Wells, a wonderful songwriter from First Church, will start of the evening. A host of additional performers will be stopping by, as the night progresses. Nov 20, 2004 7:30-9:30pm Joey Murphy. Writing and performing across Pennsylvania for nearly twenty years, Murphy is known for her soulful vocals and gritty introspective songs. She has opened for national artists Los Lonely Boys, Garrison Starr, Wendy Bucklew, Lucy Kaplansky, Mason Jennings and Cheryl Wheeler. www.themurphyhypothesis.com Oct 16, 2004 7:30-9:30pm Tom Roberts, Jazz Piano. Tom is regarded by many as one of the finest pianists today in the exciting Harlem stride piano style. Tonight, he performs with vocalist, Jennifer Wood.. Sept 18, 2004 7:30-9:30pm John Meikle and friends. Music from Scotland and around the world. John will bring his multitude of instruments for an evening of story, song, and good humor. With special guest, Roger Day on tuba.
