The DownUnder Coffeehouse features the finest in local acoustic music. The coffeehouse is open monthly on the third Saturday of the month (more or less), Sept through April.  We are located in the newly renovated basement of the Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church, 416 West North Ave, on the corner of West North Ave and Resaca Place, in Pittsburgh's historic North Side in the Mexican War Street neighborhood, near the National Aviary.

Ishtar

A night of international music with Pittsburgh's best bellydance band, Ishtar, featuring Melissa Murphey - clarinet, Jeff Chmielarski - bass, Mark DiFilippo - doumbek, Beth DiFilippo - percussion, and Rob Metil on Fender Strat guitar. Ishtar plays folk songs from all over the Middle East and Mediterranean; songs that were popular in the bellydancing club scene during the mid-20th century. And, who knows what dancers might appear when the music gets hot on a cold winter's evening?

Jack Erdie and the Insubordinates

Originally from West Virginia, the long-time Pittsburgh resident and songwriting legend, Jack Erdie draws inspiration from John Prine, Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen and Bob Dylan, among many others. He recently toured with Anne Feeney, has been featured on WYEP, and has coordinated numerous open stages and folk venues including the Three Penny Opry in Blannox . This concert will feature his full band featuring Doug Wilkin - lead guitar, Mark Perna - bass, Art Gazdik - fiddle and mandolin, and Jeff Berman - percussion and dulcimer.
