Our mission is to create a caring, nurturing liberal religious community centered on the celebration of life; to deepen awareness of the history of our Unitarian Universalist movement, its principles, and sources of wisdom; to engage in ethical discourse and action in order to maintain social justice as a central concern.

April 2010 Services
Sunday Services at Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church begin at 10:30 am
Sun April 4 – Easter – Rev. David McFarland – Out of the Catacombs
Rev. Dave explores our cultural and religious
roots in the early Christian affirmation that life is
good, death and other apparent disappointments
notwithstanding. Don't forget your bonnet, as the service will end with our non-traditional Easter Bonnet Parade!
The Membership Committee invites everyone to join us for the annual Easter Sunday Pancake Breakfast before the service. Chef Charlie will be flipping his famous pancakes (blueberry, buttermilk, corn, chocolate chip, buckwheat….) from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. that morning. This is an event that you do not want to miss. Feel free to bring friends and family. Additional food contributions should be brought prepared and ready to serve.
Sun April 11 – Ray Werner – Let's Go Back to Who We Are
Ray Werner's Pittsburgh Community Brick Oven Project aims to develop a network of community ovens in neighborhoods all over town, ovens that bring neighbors together around food and baking. Ray will talk about how bread awakens our past, awakens our community spirit, and awakens our human spirit - along with our taste buds!
Sun April 18 – Rev. David McFarland – Earth Day at 40
We’ll celebrate our Earth, glean what we’ve
learned from the last four decades of environmental
activism, and speculate how a spirituality
that affirms our place within nature (rather than
dominion over nature) is called to create a world
fit for children, grain, roaches, and other living
things.
Sun April 25 – Betty Hill – That’s So Gay
Betty Hill, Executive Director of Persad Center, the nation’s second oldest licensed counseling center serving the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community will speak about her personal journey of confronting gender and sexual orientation discrimination as a lifelong resident of Western Pennsylvania. Betty will also share the joys and challenges of working professionally within a community where her personal needs and the expectations of her as a community leader can be at times congruent and at times at odds.
