Sunday October 12

9:30 am - Communion Service

This monthly, half-hour service celebrates and strengthens our commitment to justice. Traditional symbols are used, but all will feel welcome regardless of belief.

10:30 am – First Church Folk Orchestra: Growing Our Spirit

Join us for Association Sunday, as thousands of UUs across the nation simultaneously celebrate our connections and shared commitment to Unitarian Universalism. Emily Pinkerton, songwriter and ethnomusicologist, brings the the Folk Orchestra of the First Unitarian Church in Shadyside to Allegheny today. Diverse in instruments and in ages, the Folk Orchestra renders folk, traditional and contemporary songs attuned to Unitarian Universalist values. From North America, South America, the Middle East, and Europe, the music of this ensemble celebrates the wisdom of many cultures and the importance of community music-making.

10:30 am - Death as a Spiritual Event:
Pete McQuillin

Allegheny member Pete McQuillin is poring his passion into Green Burial Pittsburgh, a nonprofit aimed at both increasing awareness of environmentally- friendly burial options and pursuing land conservation through the establishment of a green cemetery in Western Pennsylvania. Respecting our environment is a cornerstone of our faith and of many of our lives. Pete will discuss how spirituality, life, and death are connected and why natural or green burials make the most sense as we return to the earth.
