Services for September 2007

September 2

10:30 AM - Speaker: Jennifer Russell
The Soul of Work: Jennifer Russell explores the struggle between making a living and keeping the faith.

September 9

9:30 AM - Communion Service: This half-hour service celebrates and strengthens our commitment to justice. Traditional symbols are used, but all will feel welcome regardless of belief. Please join us. (Note: the Communion Service will be held on the second Sunday of each month this year.)

10:30 AM - Ingathering Service: Our annual communion of the waters is the focus of this intergenerational service. As the summer wanes, we gather the waters from the summer past and build a community together. Join Rev. Dave and Hazel Carr LeRoy and explore the meaning and magic of home.

12:00 Noon - Allegheny Book Sale: This annual event provides you with the opportunity to share those great books that you've read over the course of the year, and to support our hymnal fund.

September 16

10:30 AM - Speaker: Reverend David McFarland
Celebrating Beginnings: Summer’s end brings the Jewish new year. In this year when our Religious Education classes explore the Hebrew Scriptures, Rev. Dave celebrates Rosh Hashanah with an exploration of new beginnings inspired by this ancient tradition.

Note: The Steelers have a home game scheduled today for 1:00 pm.*

September 23

10:30 AM - Speaker: Alex West
Autumnal Equinox Celebration: Singing the Seasons, Drumming the Dawn and Dancing the Interdependent Web. On this day when day and night are in balance, one usually cerebral, earth-reverent UU reflects on experiential spirituality and the importance of dancing round a fire in the woods.

Note: The Steelers have a home game scheduled today for 1:00 pm.*

September 30

10:30 AM - Speaker: Anne Feeney
Anne Fenney is an activist, organizer, songwriter, folksinger, troublemaker and hellraiser. The Pittsburgh-based agitator performs music that she says is designed to “comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable.”

Services at Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church begin at 10:30 am.

* Please allow extra time on Steeler Sundays. Parking in the neighborhood
will start to fill about 2 hours before the game.
