October 8 - 10:30 am - Will Work for Peace, Rev. David McFarland

“Pray for peace, Work for peace.” These were Rev. Dave’s words that hung on a banner across our church building last year. What does it mean to “work for peace”? Who does the work? How much does it pay? Where do we sign up? These and other ponderables will be the subject of Rev. Dave’s Sunday reflection. Jane Dirks,CLL will be the worship leader this week.

And, don't forget UUPallooza '06 starting at 4:00pm at First Unitarian Church.

October 15 - 10:30 am - Gender and the Militarization of Culture, Dr. Greg Spicer

Dr. Spicer from the Department of Communications at the California University of Pennsylvania will be discussing what might be called the war for masculinity by providing some speculations on the cultural politics of gender post 9/11.  The presentation is sponsored by the Welcoming Committee of the church. Tim Nuttle will be the worship leader this week.

October 22 - 10:30 am - Interfaith Work as a Spiritual Path, AUUC Core Team

UUs may contemplate at length on how their religious paths and theology are vastly different from the followers of more traditional religions.  But what if your spiritual path involves working side-by-side with these traditional religionists (Christians--from fundamentalists to progressives, Jews, Muslims, Buddhists, et al.) to forge coalitions that work on social justice issues of mutual interest?  This Sunday Gregg Dietz, Pete McQuillin, Khrys Myrddin and Barry Tepperman reflect on their personal experiences of interfaith justice work in a program called, "Interfaith Work as a Spiritual Path."  Pat Downey will be the worship leader this week.

October 29 - 10:30 am - Samhain, Spiritways CUUPS

Spiritways CUUPS (Covenant of Unitarian Universalist Pagans) from the South Hills UU Church will lead a Samhain service, when ancestors and other departed souls are honored according to ancient Celtic traditions. Jennifer Russell will be the worship leader this week.

Following the service will be the final showing of Al Gore's 'An Inconvenient Truth,' starting at11:45 in the Emerson Room.

November 5 - 10:30 am - Voting for Our Children's Children, Rev. David McFarland

Rev. Dave will take the opportunity for the traditional "Election Day Sermon" to look to voting as if the next generation mattered.
