Services for September 2003

SEPTEMBER 7

Nobody Left Out Rev. Dave Lutz

For this traditional ingathering Service, don’t forget to bring water to pour into the common bowl form wherever you may have visited this Summer. If you stayed in Pittsburgh, bring water from the Mon or Allegheny or Lake Elizabeth! We’ll celebrate coming back together as we begin another year of action and reflection on the value of community.

SEPTEMBER 14

The Valley of Love and Delight Dan Wilcox

Dan Wilcox, folk harpist, pianist, lyricist, mushroom cultivator, gardener, backwoodsman and self-styled shaman has embraced the simple life in an exemplary fashion. Living a self-sufficient life in his self-crafted earth sheltered home Dan opens his heart and home to visitors monthly in a celebration of our connection to the earth, to all beings and to the Great Spirit. Dan will share with us the basis for and details of his intensely spiritual existence in the woods of northwestern Pennsylvania.

SEPTEMBER 21

Communion Service 10:00 AM Reader: Jeanne Zang

Monthly Service that reconnects us to our community of faith and action.

A Spiritual Journey 11:00 AM Rev. Dave Lutz

Our Interim Minister, Dave Lutz, is an ordained Presbyterian minister with an interest in Buddhism. He will share his own spiritual journey this morning, as well as his thoughts on the validity of each person’s spiritual journey and the fourth principle from the Unitarian Universalist covenant: A free and responsible search for truth and meaning.

SEPTEMBER 28

Instilling a Consciousness of Peace Lawrence Wray

September 21 is World Peace Day. Is the renewal of violence in our individual and collective responses to the world inevitable or is there such a force-a revolutionary essence – with which people can begin to resist affronts to humanity? Drawing on Buddhist sources and practices of contemplative prayer, we’ll reflect on the challenge World Peace Day offers.

Sunday Service at Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church begins at 11 o'clock.
