AUUC Presents an Evening with Jim Scott

Friday, May 11 at 7:30pm

Jim Scott is an Acoustic Guitarist, Environmental and Peace Activist, Composer and Folk Artist. Known to many as the voice on the Paul Winter Consort's celebrated piece "Common Ground," Jim has gone on to record eight albums and performed around the world with musicians including Peter Seeger, Peter Yarrow, and Holly Near.

As a Unitarian Universalist and co-chair of the UUA's Seventh Principle Project, Jim is actively involved in blending spiritual and ecological activism. Mixing humor, a bit of righteous anger, and reverence for the earth, Jim will perform an inter-generational family concert of his lyrical and powerful music. You will be singing along and tapping your toes!

Since 1906, Allegheny Unitarian Universalist Church has been a beacon not just of community, truth, and spiritual growth, but of social advocacy and action.

So what do we do at Allegheny that's so special? We provide a welcoming home for people from many religious backgrounds and perspectives. We provide a non-judgmental reception to people of diverse sexual orientations. As an urban church, we work in partnership with the North Side community of which we are a part, and with those whose circumstances require a helping hand.

As a congregation and as individuals, we have historically involved ourselves in issues of the times - issues like women's suffrage, civil rights, urban renewal, anti-war protests, and nuclear disarmament. Today we're working on a broad range of social issues including economic justice, racial diversity, gay rights, community revitalization, homelessness and hunger, and environmental issues.

As the 2nd oldest Unitarian Church in Pittsburgh, we've been around awhile, but you won't find us stuck in the past. We are growing in numbers and voice, experiencing a rebirth of commitment and a new relevance to our work. We invite you to come learn more about our community.
